Thomas Jefferson….Oenophile.

“Good wine is a necessity of  life for me.”

Thomas Jefferson

Our third and my favorite president, Thomas Jefferson, was a lover of fine wine. His five year stint as Ambassador to France was the perfect opportunity for him to further develop his palate and explore the best wines of the world through his diplomatic circle in Paris.

Much has been written about Jefferson’s wine passion, from Ben Wallace’s Billionaire’s Vinegar to John Hailman’s Jefferson on Wine.

Jefferson’s wine legacy lives on in the current restoration of Monicello’s vineyards and the Monticello Wine Trail in his beloved Virginia.

In honor of Thomas Jefferson, let’s remember not only his love of wine, but this Founding Father’s love of country on this President’s Day.

Mr President….à votre santé!
