The iPad Wine List

Last night, here in London, I had dinner at Gordon Ramsay’s Maze Grill. I was thrilled when the waiter brought me the wine list…on an iPad. The Wine Spectator had an article about iPad wine lists a few months back, but the readers’ comments were mixed.

This was my first time using one, and I really liked the experience. It was very user friendly and could be organized by price, region, grape, vintage or name. You can look at bottles, half-bottles, wines by the glass and by red, white, sparkling and dessert wines. After you decide what you want, you make your selection on the iPad and hand it to your server.

I spoke to the sommelier about the concept. He told me it is in a few of Ramsay’s restaurants and has been very well received. It seems that an expansion to more of the group’s restaurants is in order.

So, if you run across an iPad wine list, please contact the Grape Gazette either in the comments section or by email at grapegazettegirl@gmail.com. I would love to know your thoughts!

Until next time…à votre santé!
