The galets roulés, or round pebbles, that characterize the terroir of part of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, in the southern Rhône, Provence, France. These stones are heated by the sun and help the grapes to ripen. The bushy grape vines in this photo are grenache, the predominant grape in the region.
